Yes to the changes in both ourselves and our art…these are poignant pieces you’ve shown here. I look forward to seeing more “changes.”

Thank you, Nancy. I really appreciate your support. Let’s hope for lots of good changes in our lives and the world around us!

I love your pieces. Especially the copper, which I have never tried. In school (forever ago!) I was told to have "one recognizable style." Yikes. No thank you. I want it to be fun. Writers are told the same--not to cross genres. Why not? When we feel free, it shows in the work. Art has been a sanctuary for me, too.

Thank you so much! I’ve heard the same art ‘advice’. I think as an artist, style or voice becomes recognizable in the long run even if media changes. And we should all be free to experiment because I think that’s the base of all creativity.

It's the only way to find our voice! Limitations stifle creativity. It's weird advice. I guess it's marketing-related, but wow, isn't art more than that? (I think it is.)

Yes, it is more than that. Art is your inner voice made visible. Marketing is a whole different form of expression. (I know, I used to work in advertising)

Hi Susan,

Learning about relief work as a form of art was fascinating. Your pieces turned out great, too.

Art, like life, changes. I think that's one reason we are all drawn to art, and why it's so powerful. Never stagnant, always evolving.

You definitely should not be putting yourself down for not sticking to one form of art. Quite the contrary. Your diverse work is praise worthy. Kudos to you for trying different forms/techniques. Your willingness to experiment makes you even more of an exceptional artist.

I'm so happy art is therapy for you. And lucky for me and all your readers, you share about all of it.

Thank you so much, Nancy! Your view on art changing as life changes is so wise and I hadn’t thought about it that way at all. I just love to try things and see where it goes.

Truthfully, sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t. I have been known to throw some things in the garbage. It helps me to release it and move on.

My wish, especially right now, is for everyone to find a form of expression that helps them feel grounded and gives them relief from the crazy. It could be baking or knitting or gardening or writing. Anything that soothes the body, mind and spirit.

Hi Susan,

I totally understand how art is a form of therapy. I admire the sheer number of art ventures you've had and how creative you are. Yes, art can change as one changes. I love your paintings, as well as your relief sculpture and other wonderful artwork. Keep experimenting. The world needs your artistic voice!

I'm mainly an oil painter, and as you might know, I have now ventured into watercolors. There is no feeling that compares to the wonders of creating art! I'm adding my final oil painting to my Breast Cancer, Female and Nude series and am working on this during the week. It's exciting, and I love painting my heart on canvas.

Again, thank you Beth! Yes, art is therapy for the mind, heart and soul. I was told at one point to ‘stick to one media’, but I like experimenting. I started in high school doing watercolor classes but failed at throwing clay. Guess I just had to go back and ‘fix’ that, lol. But what I realize now, is going back was really a way to more forward.

I love your paintings! Your artistic voice shines brightly through each one and I look forward to seeing your Breast Cancer, Female and Nude series! I know how much this means to you. May the painting help your heart heal and shine.
